SFNABA : At the Movies w/ Moneyball

Best to avoid the Coliseum Dog, Brad.

Opening this Friday in theaters nationwide is the hit movie Moneyball, starring Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill as Billy Beane and Paul DePodesta. Moneyball faithfully documents the 2001 Oakland A’s World Championship AL Pennant AL West Title Wild Card runner-up prize and 20-game win streak. Based on the book by Michael Lewis, the production of Moneyball has been mired by controversy and stalled in delays. But when the chips were down, SFNABA pitched in, sending over a half-dozen players to star as ballplayers to depict both the A’s and their opponents. Say what you want about this league – but there’s not any shortage of guys who are good at standing around and taking direction. Also, this isn’t the first time SFNABA players have been on film, however, it will be the first time they’ve been depicted from the waist up.

So, bring the wife, bring the kid, bring the girlfriend and the wife and kid all out with SFNABA on Friday night to walk the red carpet in Alameda, with Moneyball premiering at their historic theater on Central Ave & Park Street. Look for the spotlights, starlets and limousines pulling up in between the hordes of paparazzi. As an added bonus, there will be special entertainment before the 7:30pm showing, where a magician will try to guess featured Moneyball co-star Erik Wanner’s IQ.
